Reprieve for People, Pets & Shelters Impacted by Oil Spill

Our commitment to local animal shelters, and to animals inside those shelters, is unwavering—and nothing illustrates it better than the video I’d like to show you today.

For the second time in a month, The HSUS has teamed up with local organizations to take the pressure off of Louisiana’s shelters, which are overwhelmed with pets relinquished as a result of the economic tumult created by the Gulf oil spill.

Last Friday afternoon, 107 dogs—medium and large dogs, the most difficult to place with new families—were delivered by The HSUS from nine Louisiana shelters and rescue groups to St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center in Madison, N.J. The majority of dogs will be available for adoption at St. Hubert’s while others will be placed with partnering agencies across New Jersey.

Here is the story of your HSUS in action for dogs and for animal shelters.
